Stall and Spin Awareness

Whiteboard

Understand condition that lead to a spin and recovery technique.

Spins are a dangerous, startling situation that can be difficult to recovery from.

  1. Stall basics
  2. Uncoordindation
  3. Asymmetrical stall
  4. Recover
    1. P: Power idle
    2. A: Aileron neutral
    3. R: Rudder opposite turn
    4. E: Elevator briskly forward
  5. Recovery: POH
  6. Airspeed
  7. Pull-out
  8. Steep spiral vs spin
  9. Scenarios
    1. Base-to-final turn

Spin recovery:

  1. Power - Idle
  2. Aileron - Neutral
  3. Rudder - Full opposite rudder
  4. Elevator - Briskly forward to break stall
  5. Airspeed will start to build
  6. Slowly pull out of dive

  • Insufficient forward elevator
  • Complete rotation stop before using forward elevator
  • Using aileron in recovery
  • Secondary stall
  • Excessive airspeed in recovery
