Safely abort a landing attempt.

All pilot need to go-round on some landings, and need to identify when to go-around.

  1. Stability
  2. Conditions for a go-around
  3. Bouncing/ballooning
  4. Runway remaining
  5. Procedure
  6. Drag and flaps
  7. Nose-up tendency and trim
  8. Left-turning tendencies
  9. Offsetting L/R
  1. Full power (23-31")
  2. Carb heat off, mixture full rich
  3. Flaps 20°
  4. Establish VX climb attitude
  5. Over obstacles, positive rate: Flaps 10°
  6. Establish VY climb attitude
  7. 70 knots: Flaps up
  8. Communicate go-around
  • Indecisiveness
  • Retracting flaps too quickly
  • Failure to recognize bad approach
  • Delay in go-around
  • Abrupt power usage
  • Not using full power
  • Maintain VX or VY climb speed as appropriate
  • Establish VY climb ± 5 knots
