Airworthiness Certificates

Airworthiness certificates are issued by the FAA to show that an aircraft has met the requirements of 14 CFR 23.

  • Airworthiness Certificates do no expire so long as the aircraft is kept in airworthy condition
    • It must conform to its original type certificate, or approved STCs
    • It must conform to applicable ADs
    • It must be kept in a condition for safe operation
  • They must be displayed near the cabin or cockpit entrance 91.203(b)

The owner or operator is responsible for maintaining an aircraft in airworthy condition. 91.213

Categories

  • Normal category
    • Capable of withstanding a load factor of 3.8G's without structure failure
  • Utility category
    • Capable of withstanding a load factor of 4.4G's without structure failure
    • This often allows for spins or other light aerobatic maneuvers
