Airworthiness Certificates
Airworthiness certificates are issued by the FAA to show that an aircraft has met the requirements of 14 CFR 23.
- Airworthiness Certificates do no expire so long as the aircraft is kept in
airworthy condition
- It must conform to its original type certificate, or approved STCs
- It must conform to applicable ADs
- It must be kept in a condition for safe operation
- They must be displayed near the cabin or cockpit entrance 91.203(b)
The owner or operator is responsible for maintaining an aircraft in airworthy condition. 91.213
Categories
- Normal category
- Capable of withstanding a load factor of 3.8G's without structure failure
- Utility category
- Capable of withstanding a load factor of 4.4G's without structure failure
- This often allows for spins or other light aerobatic maneuvers
