Taxiing

Taxi Clearances​

  • ATC is required to get a correct readback of all runway hold short insructions, so never omit the destination runway from your readback.
    • For instance: "Taxi to and hold short of runway 34."
  • When receiving a taxi clearance, you are not automatically cleared across any runways along the route. You must be explicitly cleared to cross each runway.

Light Usage​

  1. Turn on the beacon whenever an engine is running
  2. Use the navigation and position lights whenever you are taxiing
  3. Turn on all aircraft lights when crossing a runway
  4. Lining up to take off turn on all lights except for the landing light
  5. Once a takeoff clearance has been receieved,

Hot Spots​

A hot spot is defined as a location on an airport movement area with a history or potential risk of collision or runway incursion, and where heightened attention by pilots and drivers is necessary.
