Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs)
Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) are time-sensitive information pertinent to pilots that could not be published ahead of time. They typically include:
- Runway closures
- NAVAID availability
- ILS status
- Obstacles
- Radar service disruption
Types of NOTAMs
- (D) NOTAMS: Information that requires mass dissemination
- Most NOTAMs are D-NOTAMs
- Usually pertains to enroute NAVAIDs or public-use airports, facilities and procedures
- Contains a keyword which identifies what it pretains to, including:
- RWY
- TWY
- RAMP
- APRON
- AD
- OBST
- NAV
- COM
- SVC
- AIRSPACE
- U (unverified)
- O (other)
- FDC NOTAMS: IFR-related information pertaining to IFR charts, procedures, or airspace
- POINTER NOTAMS: Call outs to other NOTAMs
- MILITARY NOTAMS: Information pertaining to military NAVAIDS or airfields
- SAA NOTAMS: Pertains to Special Activity Airspace being active outside of its published schedule
- FICON NOTAMS: Related to the condition of asphalt surfaces
