Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs)

Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) are time-sensitive information pertinent to pilots that could not be published ahead of time. They typically include:

  • Runway closures
  • NAVAID availability
  • ILS status
  • Obstacles
  • Radar service disruption

Types of NOTAMs

  • (D) NOTAMS: Information that requires mass dissemination
    • Most NOTAMs are D-NOTAMs
    • Usually pertains to enroute NAVAIDs or public-use airports, facilities and procedures
    • Contains a keyword which identifies what it pretains to, including:
      • RWY
      • TWY
      • RAMP
      • APRON
      • AD
      • OBST
      • NAV
      • COM
      • SVC
      • AIRSPACE
      • U (unverified)
      • O (other)
  • FDC NOTAMS: IFR-related information pertaining to IFR charts, procedures, or airspace
  • POINTER NOTAMS: Call outs to other NOTAMs
  • MILITARY NOTAMS: Information pertaining to military NAVAIDS or airfields
  • SAA NOTAMS: Pertains to Special Activity Airspace being active outside of its published schedule
  • FICON NOTAMS: Related to the condition of asphalt surfaces
